When homeowners start flipping through a hardwood flooring buying guide, they’re often surprised to discover how fast design preferences shift. In Davis, CA, we’re seeing a strong wave of new hardwood flooring trends—some classic, some cutting-edge—all of which are influencing remodeling decisions in major ways. As your trusted local flooring company, we’re here to guide you through what’s trending and why it should impact your purchase.
Let’s dive into what’s driving these hardwood flooring choices and how they align with your goals for aesthetics, value, and performance.
Q&A: What’s Trending in Hardwood Flooring and Why Should I Care?
Q: What colors are trending in hardwood flooring right now?
A: Light, neutral tones like white oak, natural maple, and pale birch are all over hardwood flooring trends right now. These colors brighten up a room, make spaces feel more expansive, and pair easily with modern or transitional design styles. Dark, espresso-stained hardwood is taking a backseat to more natural, airy aesthetics.
Q: Are matte finishes really better than glossy ones?
A: Matte and satin finishes are dominating today’s hardwood flooring guide sections for good reason. They hide scratches better, reflect less light, and bring out the natural grain of the wood without looking dated or overly polished. Homeowners who want low-maintenance beauty are leaning into these finishes.
Q: Is wide plank flooring a passing fad or here to stay?
A: Wide planks—often 6” or more—are absolutely sticking around. They create a seamless, upscale look and visually open up rooms. Because of their impact on perception and flow, they’re frequently requested in newer Davis home builds and remodels. It’s a subtle upgrade that feels anything but subtle.
Q: What about textured hardwood? Are hand-scraped or wire-brushed finishes still in?
A: Definitely. Textured finishes remain popular not just for looks, but also for function. They help hide imperfections over time, making them a practical pick for families and busy households. If you’re considering long-term hardwood flooring installation, these finishes offer durability and trend-forward style.
Q: Are sustainable hardwood options becoming more available?
A: Yes—and more buyers are asking for them. Eco-conscious homeowners are opting for FSC-certified wood, bamboo alternatives, or domestic species sourced responsibly. These materials are not only stylish but also align with environmental values many in Davis prioritize.
Q: Does engineered hardwood count as trendy?
A: It absolutely does, especially in areas where moisture or subfloor conditions vary. Engineered hardwood offers the beauty of solid wood with added structural stability. Thanks to advances in hardwood flooring installation methods, engineered options are increasingly indistinguishable from solid planks and available in every trending color and texture.
